About Polar Zoo

Polar Zoo is one of northern Norways most popular tourist attractions and well known as the worlds most northern zoo.
The park uses an area of 114 acres with wild and beautiful nature in Salangsdalen in Bardu, in the county of Troms. These amazing nature surroundings will make your visit in Polar Zoo complete.

Our main attraction is Wolf Camp, where you have the possibility to join us inside the wolf enclosure to meet the mythical and legendary wolves close up.

A visit in the wild
Polar Zoo is more than a traditional zoo. We put great emphasize into animal welfare, and give the animals big areas to make their situation in captivity as natural as possible. The big enclosures makes it possible for the animals to stimulate their needs of activity.
Our main goal is to create a scandinavian wilderness experience, with the beautiful
surroundings of northern norways nature to complete your visit here in Polar Zoo.

We recommend three good ways to experience Polar Zoo:

1. Join us on the predator guiding, where you are guaranteed to see lynx, wolf, wolverine and bear close up. The animal keepers will give you information about the predators, while you get to see the animals in their natural environment.

2. Book a guided tour. On this tour the animal keepers take you around to the predators.
And if you are lucky, maybe you get to howl with the wolves, or give a carrot to the moose.
The animal keepers will give you information about the the animals, while you get to see
them in their natural environment.

3. You can also walk through the park and experience the animals behaviour on your own.
We recommend you to bring a binocular, because the animals are not always close to the fence.

A walk like this is a nice way to see some of the beautiful nature
surrounding Polar Zoo.

If you are planning a short visit to the park, we recommend you to join the predatorguiding, or book a guiding before you arrive. It can be difficult to see all the animals in a short time because of their big enclosures.

Polar Zoo is open every day of the year, and a visit in the wintertime is just as good as a visit during the summer season.

We would highly recommend you to visit us during the winter, when it's possible to see the animals with their thick and beautiful winterfur. The animals are also more active because of the low temperatures, and because the mating season for the wolves and lynxes is between February and April.

Polar Zoo - A family park
Besides walking around in the park and experiece the wild animals, there are plenty of other things you can do here during the high season. Petting Zoo, electric cars and minigolf is just some of the things we have offer.
Many people choose to stay in Polar Zoo for several days because we have a parking for caravans. Then they have a lot of time to spend on fishing in the river, or barbeque in the park area.

If you want to enjoy a good meal inside, feel free to visit our nice cafè which is located close to the park entrance. It's also possible to book our norwegian barbeque cabin, Kåta, which takes up to 45 people for dinner events. Kåta is furnished with stylish wooden tables and seating covered with reindeer fur. In the center of the cabin we have an open fire place which completes the wilderness experience. Here you can enjoy specialmade dinners and a wide range of beverages, according to taste.
