ABOUT POLAR ZOO

Polar Zoo is one of northern Norways popular travel destinations and is well known for being the most northern animal park in the world.

Located in the Salangsdalen valley in the Bardu municipality in the county of Troms, the park covers an area of around 275 acres of wild and breath taking nature which serves as a part of the animal enclosures and total experience of visiting Polar Zoo.

Our greatest attraction is Wolf Camp where you can meet wolves up-close-and-personal inside the enclosure.

If you are planing to visit Polar Zoo this should surely be on you list of things to do! In Wolf Camp you can experience these mythical and legendary wolves up close and personal, as we take you with us inside the enclosure to visit the wolves!

A visit into the wild

Polar zoo is by fare a traditional zoo. Animal welfare is high priority and we make sure that the animals have the space they require, the right settings that resemble their natural habbitat and plenty of envoirmental enrichment inside the enclosures to keep them stimulated and active.

Our main goal is to provide an experience of Scandinavian wild life combined with the beautiful surroundings of northern Norway’s nature.

We recomend three good ways to experience the animal park:

1. Join us on the predator feeding round. which includes lynx, wolf, wolverine and bear and is a garenteed experience of the animals. Our staff make sure to provide an informative and wild experience of the animals during the feeding session.

2. Book an animal guiding. On the animal guiding you get a specially arranged tour of the predators in the park incl. carrot feeding the elk and howling with the Salang wolf pack! Our staff make sure to provide an informative and wild experience of the animals during the guiding.

3. You can always take your own tour of the park. A healthy and good-for-the-spirit hike around in the park visiting the animal enclosures, serves as an enjoyable 3-4 hours of wild nature and animal experience for the keen observer. We recomend that you bring binoculas with you as these will help you to spot the animals that have chosen to relax fare inside the enclosures.

If you are visiting us on a short time limit we highly recomend that you either join our predator feeding round or book a guided tour before hand, since the animals are not always easy to see and often require observation time due to their large enclosures and the wild, obscuring nature that serves as the animals natural habbitat.

Every season is Polar Zoo season!

Polar Zoo is open all year every day and a visit during the winter can be just as enjoyable as a summer visit.

Spring starts in may and autumn falls in september. Summer is Polar Zoo's high season. The high season starts the 20th of June and ends the 20th of August.

As winter lays its white veil over the beautiful country side from the beginning of October to late April, Polar Zoo enteres the season that makes the park true to its name. Winter visits are highly recommended as the animals of Polar Zoo are all dressed in their thick winter coats and are much more active due to the cold tempatures and the mating seasons that typically fall between Febraury and April.

As a special winter treat, we light the park with torches that trail up through the animal park when the light is low, and make sure you get a flask of warm chocklate or coffee to bring with you.

A family park

Appart from hiking around the park and experiencing the wild life, there are plenty of other things to do in Polar Zoo. Petting Zoo, pony riding, kiddy driving school and minigolf are some examples.

Many stay for a day or two and camp in our camping areas, fish in the great river running through the park and enjoy a nice and relaxed picnic by our campfires that are set up around the park. One of the favorit spots is located on a hill overviewing the enclosures to the wolves and the wolverines while giving you a full panorama vision of the beautiful mauntains and wild nature surrounding Polar zoo.

If you feel more like eating a good meal indoors you can always visit our coasy polar restastaurant located at the entrance to the park or book an evening in our hand buildt kåta which seets up to 45 people. The kåta is a unique norwegian experience in it self with coasy tables and benches softened by reindeer skin all cirkeled around a roaring fireplace where you can enjoy specially prepared dinners or book your own special arrangement where we will do our best to meet you requirements.
